The end of 2022 and the start of 2023 have been difficult times for any Philadelphia sports fan. Philadelphia is getting to be known as an "almost championship town.

Philadelphia Union

The Philadelphia Union went to the MLS championship in November 2022 for the first time ever. Since the Union were in the championship, I tuned in just to see them lose a heartbreaker in overtime penalty kicks.

Philadelphia Phillies

Next, the Philadelphia Phillies were starting to become a promising team with new head manager Rob Thomson taking over. With an underdog mentality, the Phillies made it back to the World Series for the first time since losing to the Yankees in 2009. Citizens Bank Park was rocking. The feeling and drive of this team felt different; it felt unstoppable. Until it wasn’t. After game 4, it was all tied at 2-2, and the pressure began to build. The next games were hard to watch as the team I loved lost two straight and I could no longer listen to dancing on my own. As much as watching the Phillies lose hurt me, it was time for a new season of NFL football.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles were coming off an average season the year before but made big pickups in the offseason. Jalen Hurts was proving the doubters wrong as everyone on the team just continued to ball out. The Birds beat the Giants and then the 49ers to go to the Super Bowl. I was in Philadelphia for the win over the Giants, and I haven't experienced anything like that in my life. I could only imagine the feeling after the 2017 Super Bowl. Watching the Super Bowl this year as an Eagles fan felt different than it did in 2017. In 2017, the Eagles were the underdogs, had nothing to lose, and no one thought we should be there. This year we deserved to be there; we had a great team, a great leader, and one of the best seasons in Eagles history. Watching that game until the end was nothing but pain. Jalen Hurts had one of the best games of his career, and I can’t wait to see what he does next year, but the pain I felt for this team was insane. Philadelphia broke a record by losing three straight championships within four months of each other. As a fan, you are lucky to see your team go to the championship in your lifetime. I watched three of my teams lose three straight championships. Philadelphia was so close to becoming a great sports championship town. All the faith I have left is in the 76ers. There's no way they could go all the way to the NBA Finals and lose, right?
